Owning Our Narrative
The Muslim Women's Coalition believes it is uniquely qualified to accurately represent the history, culture and values of the Muslim community through their lived experience, authentic voices and resources they provide.
The Islamic Resource Center library offers thousands of curated books and resources that counteract the misconceptions, stereotypes and inaccuracies often found in mainstream bookstores and even libraries. We offer the public an accurate portrayal of Muslim history, beliefs, practices, women, art and much more.
The Wisconsin Muslim Journal amplifies voices and shares stories and journeys from across Wisconsin that may otherwise be marginalized. The free online publication is easily accessible and has a global audience who are now familiar with the Muslims who call Wisconsin home.
The Milwaukee Muslim Film Festival, held at the historic Oriental Theater provides a stunning venue to showcase films that impact film goers on a personal and emotional level. The festival offers a space for dialogue, reflection and understanding, this is done through talk backs, panels, exhibits and even food sampling. By controlling our narrative, the stories are told by those who live and value who they are.
