Empowering New Immigrants
Approximately 400 people who fled Afghanistan when the Taliban took over in August 2021, settled in Milwaukee. They struggled to adjust to a new city and acclimate to a new culture. Thanks to your contributions, we were able to step into action.
Your donations made it possible for new Muslim immigrants to thrive in Wisconsin.
Every year, we serve hundreds of immigrants in our Afghan Buddy Program, women’s Sewing Circle and our youth leadership initiatives.
“These women had to leave everything behind but their skills. Many of them know how to sew, and others like to learn. The sewing circles give moms a safe place to be together, share stories, and learn and grow together.”- Rawand Yazaw, MMWC’s youth development and Sewing Circle Project director.
