About
“The believers who show the most perfect faith are those with the best character, and the best of you are those who are best to their women.”
The Mission of Our Peaceful Home
Our Peaceful Home (OPH) is a nonprofit, culturally specific family strengthening and domestic abuse program funded by the Wisconsin Department of Children and Families. Our mission is to strengthen local families by preventing ALL types of abuse. While OPH advocates specialize in supporting Muslim immigrants and refugees, their services are accessible to everyone.
What We Provide
Our professional trained advocates are fluent in Arabic, Urdu, Spanish, Malay, Burmese, Rohingya and Somali. Translators are available for additional languages.
Services with advocates are confidential. OPH advocates help clients navigate complex systems such as governmental agencies, courts and social services. Advocates can also refer clients to other agencies for longer-term service, legal assistance and employment search.
The OPH team educates agencies, attorneys, schools, service providers and many institutions that work closely with the Muslim community.
When I first entered this sprawling country, I knew no one, and no one knew me. Our Peaceful Home guided me and my child to safety through this thorny path. They took our hands and gave me tranquility.
When Should You Reach For Help?
Domestic abuse can be defined as a pattern of behavior in any relationship that is used to gain or maintain power and control over an intimate partner. Abuse is physical, sexual, emotional, economic, religious, or psychological actions, or threats of actions that influence another person.
This includes any behaviors that frighten, intimidate, terrorize, manipulate, hurt, humiliate, blame, injure or wound someone.
Domestic abuse can happen to anyone of any race, age, immigration status, religion, or gender and affects people of all socioeconomic and educational backgrounds.
There was no judgement or pressure, just support. Our Peaceful Home is very needed in our community.
Planning for Your Safety
If you are in an abusive relationship it is important to create a safety plan. This is useful whether you are trying to stay or leave the relationship. Our Peaceful Home domestic violence victim advocates can help you develop a plan according to your needs.
Make a 'warning sign' and share it with your family, friends, or neighbors so they will know to call the police if you are afraid or unable to call the police yourself. Tell someone trustworthy about what is going on. Telling someone relieves your suffering, breaking the silence and is the first step to getting help.
- If you believe you are in danger, plan an escape route to a safe place and show the safe place to your children.
- Pack a bag with important things if you need to leave quickly; put it in a safe place, or give it to a friend or relative you trust.
- Take cash, car keys, and important documents such as court papers, passport or birth certificates, medical records and medicines and immigration papers.
- Read the Quran and pray; make du'a.
- Ask Allah to give you the strength and courage you need.

More Testimonials
Our Peaceful Home helped me with so many things during my difficult time. When my children and I didn't have a place to live, they found me a shelter.
For everyone like me who doesn't speak English and is not educated, the organization is very needed because they informed me of many things that I didn't know and some things I was too scared to talk about.
I took refuge in Our Peaceful Home when I escaped from my abusive husband. My circumstances were very difficult because I do not have a family in America. They helped me financially and emotionally.
I thank them a lot, and I consider them my family. Without the existence of Our Peaceful Home, my life would have been difficult. I thank them very much for standing with me.
Our Peaceful Home program for us is unforgettable in my life because our family has been reunited because of you. Your advocates helped with every single thing our family needed, always having good suggestions and supporting without problems. From my heart, your agency is the best thing I have ever seen, and I really appreciate you supporting us.
