About
The MWC’s youth programs provide high-quality, culturally relevant content to reinforce positive lifestyles and healthy choices.
Curriculums are based on age, background and the community of participating youth. The most effective programs include empowerment camps, field trips, community service projects, physical activities, art making and STEM workshops.

The Summer Reading and Activity Camp is all about creating unforgettable experiences for youth, sparking a lifelong love for reading, and building meaningful connections with the IRC library.
This year’s camp was packed with exciting activities like Mad Science experiments, robot building, insect education, aerodynamics, movie sound effects, braille learning, canvas painting, and a special session with beekeeper Abu Zakaria from Masjid Al-Quran. Each moment was designed to inspire curiosity, creativity, and joy!
We are deeply grateful to the Kolaga Family Charitable Trust and the Brewers Community Grant for their incredible generosity. Their support makes a world of difference for the children we serve, and the impact is truly immeasurable.
As Dr. Rudine Sims Bishop beautifully said, “Books are mirrors, windows, and sliding doors.” The IRC library is proud to offer resources that celebrate and reflect our children’s identities, fostering a sense of belonging and pride.
We’re also thrilled to celebrate the success of our Empowerment Program, which has helped 45 youth leaders emerge, equipped with the skills and confidence to thrive. Together, we’re building a brighter future—one child, one story, and one opportunity at a time!
Our Youth Programs
Mentoring Our Youth
MWC’s youth programs are committed to providing high-quality, culturally relevant workshops that provide youth with the opportunities to learn skills and gain experiences that contribute to more positive lifestyles and boost their capacity to make healthier life choices. The MMWC’s youth programs vary widely depending on factors including age, background, and the community of participating youth. The most effective types of youth programs include summer empowerment camps, field trips, community service projects, physical activity, and art sessions, in addition to STEM workshops and classes.
The youth leadership programs are designed to address the needs of youth through 6 main approaches:
- Leadership skills
- Cultural promotion
- Advocacy and civic engagement
- Promote positive self-esteem
- Healthy relationships
- Career advancement
Buddy Program
The “Be a Buddy” program aims to enrich and strengthen participants by promoting personal development and fun through recreational and educational experiences. Every Saturday, from 12:30 – 4:00 p.m., Afghan children and teens connect with similar-aged local children in Milwaukee at Hamilton High School. They participate in ESL classes, art projects, and play sports. Crafts and story-time are also available for children 3-6 years old.
Women’s Sewing Circle
The sewing circle for Afghan women is held in the sewing lab at Hamilton High School. The MMWC provides fabric and all sewing notions for the mothers. This gives them a sense of community and accomplishment and allows them to make their own clothes as well as clothes for their children. This also gives them employable skills as they learn important lessons and receive critical interventions that assist them in feeling less isolated.
Book Club
The Milwaukee Muslim Coalition's Youth Book Club is a space where young readers come together to explore diverse stories, share perspectives, and foster a love for reading. Through engaging discussions and thought-provoking books, the club empowers youth to connect with their identities, broaden their horizons, and develop a lifelong passion for learning.
