Youth Leadership

MWC’s youth programs are committed to providing high-quality, culturally relevant workshops that provide youth with the opportunities to learn skills and gain experiences that contribute to more positive lifestyles and boost their capacity to make healthier life choices.

The MMWC’s youth programs vary widely depending on factors including age, background, and the community of participating youth. The most effective types of youth programs include summer empowerment camps, field trips, community service projects, physical activity, and art sessions, in addition to STEM workshops and classes.

Mentorship and Leadership Development

At MMWC, we are dedicated to mentoring and cultivating future leaders within our community.

Summer Internships

This summer, we hosted four interns, each bringing their unique backgrounds and perspectives to the program. Upon completing their internships, several have chosen to return as volunteers, contributing to our other youth initiatives.

Be a Buddy Program

Through our Be a Buddy program, youth mentors gain valuable leadership experience and often continue their journey with us as dedicated volunteers.

Supporting Future Success

MMWC takes pride in supporting youth beyond our programs. We have provided numerous letters of recommendation for participants pursuing opportunities such as medical school, sports programs, and more, helping them achieve their aspirations.

Our commitment to youth development extends beyond the classroom, empowering the next generation to lead and succeed.

Mentoring for South Division High School Students

South Division High School has a youth club called African and Asian spiritual Connection Club, Two times a month we go into their school and do programing for the High Schoolers with topics such as Understanding their Identities, Mental Health and how to destress, Healthy Hygiene and natural ways of taking care of our bodies, This also entails any topics that they feel like they need.

Building Youth Leaders

The goal of the Summer Reading and Activity Camp is to create quality experiences for youth, promote reading as a hobby and build a strong connection with the IRC library.

This year’s camp included Mad Science, robot building, insect education, basics of aerodynamics, movie sound effects, braille, canvas painting and a special session with masjid Al-Quran’s beekeeper, Abu Zakaria.

Scholar Dr. Rudine Sims Bishop said, “Books are mirrors, windows and sliding doors” and the IRC library provides materials that reflect our children’s identity.
