Our Story and Mission
The Muslim Women’s Coalition (MWC) is dedicated to building an equitable and inclusive Wisconsin, where diversity is celebrated and all individuals are valued. Our mission is to empower Muslim women and girls through education, leadership, outreach, and wellness programs, helping them reach their fullest potential while creating a positive impact on the broader community.
Founded in 1994, MWC began as a local resource organization with the goal of promoting a more accurate understanding of Islam and Muslim women. Over the years, we have remained committed to leading positive community change through advocacy, dialogue, education, and outreach, using faith-based values to ensure dignity and equity for all.
Who We Are
Our work focuses on creating a Wisconsin where Muslims are recognized as integral members of society. Through nearly three decades of outreach and programming, MWC continues to provide vital resources that foster understanding, break down barriers, and support the Muslim community.
MWC serves as a critical resource hub for schools, universities, businesses, law enforcement, healthcare centers, religious institutions, community organizations, and the media. Our Islamic Resource Center houses MWC’s office and the largest Islamic lending library in Wisconsin.
In addition to our community outreach, MWC partners with influential organizations and advocates for women and girls, peace, justice, and a better world. We are proud to offer Our Peaceful Home, a culturally specific domestic abuse and family strengthening program, which supports victims and survivors of abuse.
MWC is also the driving force behind the Wisconsin Muslim Journal (WMJ) and the Milwaukee Muslim Film Festival (MMFF). These initiatives offer Muslims the opportunity to share their stories and experiences through mainstream media and the arts, helping to illuminate the diverse lives of Muslims in our community.
At MWC, we envision a world where all women can reach their fullest potential—empowered, economically secure, and valued within their communities and beyond.
