Every summer, the Islamic Resource Center is proud to host its own Summer Reading Program during Summer break. Through this program, children from around the Milwaukee County area are encouraged to read as many books from our library as they can. Depending on their ages and abilities, children are awarded with small prizes for every milestone they reach in their reading and entered into a grand prize raffle of a film screening of their choice at the center for themselves and eight of their friends.
To help get children engaged, weekly story times are also provided as performed by the center’s librarian. Children are also encouraged to attend fun programs dedicated to the arts and sciences. Some of our past activities include How to make your own Slime, Make Your Own Fosils, Making Optical Illusions (thaumatropes like the bird and cage illusion), Marshmallow Architecture, Ramadan crafts, visits from the Schlitz Audubon Society with live animals, and many more.
Due to the constraints of COVID-19, current programs are limited to a maximum attendance of 8-10 children per event with social distancing and masks, except for those under two years of age. Pre-registration is required but participation is free. Space fills up fast so sign up early. And if you cannot make it, please cancel at least 24 hours in advance.
